Mayfield Estate located in well known tea-growing region in kotagala of Central hill country of Sri Lanka.
It is in 130 km from Colombo and in some 7.6 km from Hatton, and, which comes under the purview of Nuwara-eliya district of Central provincial council.
Prior to the nationalization the Mayfield Estate was owned by the companies of Mayfield Dimbula tea Company Ltd (1914-1923), Mayfield T Co Ltd (1898-1906) and Scott C.J (1885- 1888). And the director of the owning companies prior to the nationalization were Mr. Wilson, E, Stuart, Mr.Carey, A de J Mr.Cooke, W.H Mr.A.D. MacLean&Condr Mr.Armstrong., H.L. and Mr.Mitchell., Jas.P.
The Estate was nationalized in 1975 and owned by Government owned Business Undertaking Public company and Janatha Estates Development Board until 1991, from 1991 Estate was leased to private companies under Kotagala Plantations managed by the managing agents of George Steuarts Management Service (PVT) (Since 1992) and Lankem Tea & Rubber Plantations (since 1995)
In 1994 Lochiel Division has been amalgamated to Mayfield Estate from Stoniclif Estate.
Mayfield Estate produces 600,000 kgs of black tea annually for export market .
